Gov. Perdue Urges Backers of New Gun Bill to Go Slow

Governor Sonny Perdue has sent a go-slow warning to supporters of a bill that would expand the list of places where people could carry concealed guns as long as they have permits. The Governor said he wants to see the final version of the bill if it passes before he decides whether to sign or veto it. Thursday the House Judiary Committee held a hearing on the bill, which would expand the list of permitted locations to include churches, schools, college campuses, and the State Capitol among other places. Sponsor Tim Bearden, a Villa Rica Republican, said Thursday that he added such a sweeping list of public places, as a starting point for debate on the final version of his bill.
