Hodges does not oppose DNA samples - that is a severe stretch of the truth.
Aside from what Hodges or Teilhet believe - this bill is going no where fast. Why? 1) because if you are an innocent person and incorrectly arrested for a felony you are put in the dna database - it assumes guilt - which is not how our justice system operates. who is going to vote for a dna database of people who are not even found guilty??? and 2) aside from that it is all felonies - so you could write a bad check for a certain amount and state resources would be wasted on a dna test. 3) the state has a backlog of dna tests as it is and 4) there is not enough funding for this in the budget, especially after 1 billion in cuts.
Hodges' does support DNA databases and his comment had to do with Teilhet voting against funding for DNA testing and crime labs that was in the previous budget and then the next year - saying we should have more dna testing.
