Athens Banner-Herald Editorial: They'll have to cut services, or they'll have to raise taxes

In a state where public school teachers already are being furloughed, where there are fewer state troopers on the roads, and where other vital government services also are being trimmed, lawmakers' immediate focus should be on short-term needs rather than long-term fixes.

And that, in fact, might be the focus chosen by lawmakers and others in the state's leadership ranks, if this were not an election year. But, given the fact that this is an election year, those elected leaders aren't going to be particularly interested in talking about improving the revenue side of the state's ledger.

File under the utterly obvious.
