Does Representative Blaine Luetkemeyer truly believe that nearly 50% of Republicans are "Socialist". It would seem so according to his Assistant Chief of Staff Gary Marble, Columbia, MO.
We are seeing polls coming out on a regular basis showing wide spread and sustained support for Health Care Reform containing a Public Option.
This support includes nearly 50% of republicans.
Sixty-nine percent of Americans support creation of a government-run health plan to compete with private insurance companies, a new poll found.
A clear majority of Americans -- 72 percent -- support a government-sponsored health care plan to compete with private insurers, a new CBS News/New York Times poll finds. Most also think the government would do a better job than private industry at keeping down costs and believe that the government should guarantee health care for all Americans.

health insurance plan -- something like the Medicare coverage that people 65 and olderget -- that would compete with private health insurance plans?T R D IFavor 72 50 87 71Oppose 20 39 9 21DK/NA 8 11 4 8How does this tie into Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer - R (MO-9)?
On Friday June 26th 13 constituents from various parts of the 9th Congressional district visited Rep. Luetkemeyer's Columbia, MO office to deliver a petition. A visit that was originally planned for Saturday June 27th to coincide with the National Day of Service. However, after checking with the office the constituents found out the office would not be open on Saturday.
We were informed the there was no one in the Representative's office. An employee of the building management company stated that she was informed that someone would be dropping by to drop off something.
Those of us who went to the effort to distribute, collect and present the signatures approached this endeavor with the understanding in the end we would probably have limited effect on persuading Rep. Luetkemeyer's mind on this matter. We did feel it was important to give voice to those in the 9th Congressional District of Missouri who favor the public option. Keeping all recent polling in mind would put that support some where in the 70% range including a sizable percent of Repbulicans.
While we did not expect to change Rep. Luetkemeyer's mind we were disappointed in the response we did get.
The following is the response in part from Assistant Chief of Staff Gary Marble.
Congressman Luetkemeyer has made his position on health care very clear. Socialized medicine has failed in every attempt. The Congressman's position is in line with the overwhelming majority of the constituents who have contacted our office in opposition to Socialized medicine.
So what was this "Socialized Medicine" petition we presented.
Health Care Reform Petition
We the undersigned, constituents of the 9th congressional district, sign this petition in support of health reform. We believe there should be a public insurance option, competing alongside private insurance plan, in order to bring health care cost down, guarantee universal access, and give Americans the freedom to choose their plans and doctors.
Thank you for your support!
Just to add a little back ground info on our Representative
He owns the Luetkemeyer Insurance Agency and his family owns the Bank of St. Elizabeth
