Laissez-Faire as a real world, rather than ivory tower, policy position is based on a fabricated interpretation of history. You can see a great example in a recent op-ed Bush and Obama Opt for Corporatism over Freewheeling Capitalist Economy
We've always had some elements of the corporate state in America — subsidies, tariffs, monopoly privileges, regulatory cartels — but we've prospered because of the freewheeling entrepreneurship and creative destruction that characterizes most of our economy. How do we know it was "freewheeling entrepreneurship and creative destruction" rather than... well... the other thing he mentioned?
Its creative reinterpretation of how the world works... and/or how the world is allowed to work by societies and those who run them.
