Important Vote on Federal Budget Soon!

Congress has returned from a two-week recess and is back to work on the Congressional Budget Resolution for fiscal year 2010 (which begins October 1, 2009).  A “conference committee” is working out differences between the versions already passed by the House and Senate and then the final agreement will go back to the House and Senate for a vote very soon.

NEA believes the budget should help rebuild and renew our economy through investments in education and other vital services, and health care reform.  Although details of a final agreement are still being worked out, it is likely that the budget will provide critical increases for education, building on the investments provided in the economic recovery package.  We are hopeful that the budget will also include language that will pave the way for consideration of health care reform in the near future.

Urge Members of Congress to support a final Budget Resolution that will help renew the economy through investments in education and health care reform.

Republicans who support public education and oppose private school vouchers can express those views through a website at www.ROVE2009.org (Republicans Opposing Voucher Efforts).  At this site, you can read your state's Republican platform and the national Republican platform, and can send a message to Republican Chairman Steele and your state officials in opposition to vouchers.  Please take a moment to check out this informative website.
